High Tension Cable System in Durango, Colorado
Pascetti Steel recently completed the fabrication & installation of a high tension cable barrier system for a McDonald’s Drive-Thru in Durango, Colorado. This project showcases our expertise in designing & delivering durable cable systems that enhance safety & functionality.

The high tension cable barrier system we installed in Durango provides a long-lasting, low-maintenance solution for controlling vehicle access & enhancing security. This system included the installation of Large W-beams set into a concrete wall, ensuring a solid foundation for the barrier structure.

Our steel barrier systems are engineered for maximum strength & flexibility, making them ideal for high-traffic areas where impact resistance is crucial.
At Pascetti Steel, we specialize in designing & fabricating custom cable barriers tailored to meet the unique needs of each project.
Our team ensures precision in every step, from material selection to final installation, guaranteeing optimal performance & durability.
This project also involved the installation of intermediate steel posts, which were field welded with cross bracing to provide additional stability & strength.

We integrated a drive-thru cable barrier system specifically for the McDonald’s, allowing controlled access while maintaining a secure perimeter.
The threading of ½” cables was meticulously completed to ensure proper tension & function.

Benefits of High Tension Cable Barrier Systems
- Enhanced Safety
- Effectively prevents vehicles from crossing into opposing traffic, reducing the risk of severe head-on collisions.
- Absorbs & redirects crash energy, lowering the impact forces on occupants compared to rigid barriers.
- Cost-Effective
- Lower initial installation costs compared to concrete or guardrail systems.
- Easier & less expensive to repair after an impact—only the struck section of cables/posts typically needs replacement.
- Quick Installation
- Faster to install than traditional barriers, minimizing lane closure times & traffic disruption.
- Flexibility & Performance
- Can handle impacts from different angles & vehicle sizes (cars, SUVs, light trucks).
- Effective in medians as narrow as 6–8 feet, making it suitable for a variety of roadway designs.
- Reduced Vehicle Damage
- Cables “give” on impact, which typically results in less severe vehicle damage compared to hitting concrete walls or guardrails.
- Improved Roadside Visibility
- Slim profile maintains driver sightlines & reduces the “visual barrier” effect that solid walls can create.
- Proven Crash Test Results
- Meets Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) crash test standards (NCHRP Report 350 / MASH).
- Successfully contains & redirects vehicles at highway speeds.
- Adaptability
- Works well in rural, suburban, & urban settings.
- Can be used in medians, along curves, or on roadside edges where space is limited.
