The Historic Baca House was a uniquely wonderful project. Pascetti Steel was selected by History Colorado which is the state historical association. They were selected to fabricate and install new fencing and gates to match the original historic gates and fencing.

Some history on the Baca House starts with Don Felipe de Jesus Baca (1829–74). He was one of the first settlers of the Purgatoire River valley and was one of the most important developers of Trinidad, Colorado. He was a member of the Colorado Territorial legislature. Don Felipe de Jesus Baca is the namesake of Baca County in southeast Colorado.

In 1873, Felipe and Dolores Baca traded 22,000 pounds of wool for an unusual adobe house which was built for Santa Fe Trail entrepreneur John Hough. The Baca House has two stories, a widow’s walk, and Greek architectural details. This home is made up of  colorful Rio Grande textiles, Victorian furniture, and other period furnishings that represent the lifestyle of this prominent family.

A new Phat Rack™ – Multiple Heavy Bag Rack recently got installed in a boxing gym in Memphis, TN where coaches are helping reverse and delay symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease.

Boxers condition for optimal agility, speed, muscular endurance, accuracy, balance, hand-eye coordination, footwork, and overall strength to defend against and overcome opponents. At Rock Steady, the opponent is Parkinson’s disease.

Parkinson’s causes a loss in many of the same elements that boxers condition to improve and published medical research has shown that forced, intense exercise can reduce, reverse and delay Parkinson’s symptoms. They also know that a diversity of symptoms needs to be addressed simultaneously.

The Bio Park is now home to some new penguin friends in the Penguin Chill exhibit. The Macaroni and Gentoo Penguins came from San Diego while the King Penguins came from Orlando. This is the first exhibit where you can see these three species together. Because of this, there are over 30 total penguins in the new exhibit. Because the closest exhibit is in San Diego, it makes the new ABQ exhibit on of it’s kind in the Southwest. Great job Albuquerque!

Pascetti Steel fabricated and installed the new colored steel panel facade that sits at the entrance of the new Penguin Chill exhibit. It also doubles as a donation wall. The piece was inspired by the landscapes near Ushuaia, Argentina, which is home to Gentoo and King penguins.

The custom mural is approximately 40′ wide x 15′ tall and nearly 7,000 pounds. The mural had to be transported in four separate sections, lifted by crane and took an entire day to install.

The Penguin Chill mural was designed by MRWM Landscape Architects.

More About the exhibit:

• Penguin Chill has two floors for viewing penguins above and a glass floor below that allows guests to see penguins swimming under them. 
• Seven penguin viewing areas, including a glass floor as well as an “in-tank” viewing tube
• VIP area for penguin meet-and-greet sessions
• Penguin care area, including quarantine and egg incubation rooms
• The most technologically advanced and interactive education space at the ABQ BioPark
• A live replication of  the southern lights

Smith Plaza, the center and heart of main campus at The University of New Mexico, has reopened after undergoing a major renovation completed by Jaynes Corporation. The design team included MRWM Landscape Architects, McClain +Yu Architects and Surface Design, Inc.

To celebrate the completion of the project, the public is invited to an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Aug. 29 at 10 a.m. on the Plaza.

It’s estimated that 10,000 students travel through Smith Plaza every day.  The once mostly concrete plaza has been, “Transformed into a vibrant, safe, accessible, and comfortable ‘great room’ environment that will host academic and social activities throughout the year,” said Kim Kloeppel, UNM’s chief operations officer for Student Affairs. “The renovation now has plateaus and landings with trees, grass, and many areas for students to sit, study, and socialize.”

Westminster Presbyterian Church Frame

Pascetti Steel was asked to craft the stained glass support frame for three 1918 stained glass Tiffany & Co. “Te Deum” church windows for the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Dayton, Ohio. The three windows were valued at five million dollars. The project took the team a total of 24 months to complete, with a final price tag of $400,000. View full story here.

Regal Cinemas Steel Stair Railings

The country’s largest movie theater chain, Regal Entertainment Group, is upgrading its facilities and Pascetti Steel was contracted to fabricate, finish and install theater stair railings and ADA compliant wall-mount hand railing at Regal Cottonwood Stadium 16 in Albuquerque. The refurbishment also includes new “king size” vibrating recliners and will be offering alcoholic beverages in some locations.  Additionally, working with Double AA Builders our team successfully modified stainless steel railings at the newly complete Regal Winrock Cinemas. Pascetti Steel guarantees all theater railings adhere to ISO (International Organization for Standardization) ensuring products and fabrication are safe, reliable and of premium quality.  The quick fabrication schedule was maintained by use of accurate placement jigs and pre-finished rails to control the tight production schedule.

• Contracted with Double AA Builders from Phoenix Arizona, Pascetti Steel has fabricated and installed 16 new theaters with ADA compliant stair railings and custom steel wall-mount handrails.
• Precision-formed railings made from 1.5” pipe and CNC bending machinery ensures precise geometry and proper fit.  Special bending software is used to layout the complex shapes required for correct slope geometry.
• Bending pipe and forming elbows utilizes the strength and integrity of the whole pipe verses the laborious process of cutting, welding, grinding and sanding pre-made pipe elbows.  The final product is smooth, seamless and public friendly.
• Our custom, ADA compliant wall-mount railings have been fabricated with specially formed handrail brackets that ensure rails stay strong and in place with this demanding public use.

Pascetti Steel Design recently purchased a HEBO RBV 12 SV – CNC drilling machine which can be used for drilling, flow drilling, thread forming and taping.  The unit can work single or double-sided with capacity up to 2’’ diameter pipe and 2 1/2″ square. We are one of only a handful of HEBO owners in the country and owners of  the only HEBO in the Southwest!

We can now offer automatic drilling for economical, mass-production of section and flat materials. Ideal for the production of cable railing and tubing with internal thread attachment.

What is flow drilling?

Flow drilling is a process for drilling holes in thin-walled sheet metal, metal tubes, or pipes without metal removal. A rotating tungsten bit is forced into the material, the heat generated by the friction heats the surrounding area and plasticizes the material, a hole is then formed by the entering tool. Flow drilling is an excellent process to create reliable, strong connections without welding.

As the beginning months of the year come to a close, we would like to take a look back at some of the wonderful projects and events we got to be a part of throughout 2014. These types of creative outlets are truly what keep us going, so we really cherish the members of the community that make these things possible. Here is a look back on some of our favorite moments of 2014.  

In April of 2014, we were pleased to work with homeowner Ed with custom gates for his Corrales residence. Like many of our residential customers, Ed was looking for something to compliment the work he had put into his home, and we ran with his ideas to create the perfect gates for the job! The plasma-cut, chemical rusted gates now stand as beautiful reminders of what we’re capable of when presented with a great idea! Ed was pleased with the finished product and had this to say: “I came to Pascetti Steel with my own hand sketch and enjoyed collaborating with Damian.  The finished product is nothing short of special.  They create a focal point for the house.  The neighbors are envious of these show pieces!  We especially love the custom cane bolts.  Damian and his crew were easy to work with on a somewhat complicated installation.  Overall, we are more than pleased.” Thanks to Ed for the kind words!

In July we had the pleasure of completing beautiful, functional stainless steel processing counters for the Mariposa Port of Entry in Nogales, Arizona, where millions of people cross the border between Mexico and the United States every year. These stainless steel counters are beautiful and resistant to the wear and tear that tends to damage other materials. This project was Platinum LEED certified, meaning that as a government sub-contractor, our work is compliant with green initiatives. Our work at the Mariposa Port of Entry is representative of the values we hold most dear, and we are glad to have been a part of the renovations.

While Funky Steel has created an outlet for creativity within the home, our customers have always provided us with wonderful opportunities to show what we’re capable of. When Porsche fanatic Steven Stacy came to owner Damian Pascetti with the back end of a classic Porsche body, Damian went to work converting the car into a fully functional custom barbecue. They were so successful in creating the perfect “carbecue” that the Yahoo Sports video blog ThePostGame.com hosted an entire webisode featuring the grill for its “Extreme Grillers” series. The film crew from Los Angeles did an excellent job of documenting the amazing work and creativity that went into creating the carbecue, and we are proud to demonstrate our skills when it comes to the seemingly impossible tasks that our customers come up with!

One of our most creative and exciting endeavors of last year was the launch of our home décor line, Funky Steel. As Pascetti Steel focuses on commercial and industrial projects for much of the year, Funky Steel serves as a creative outlet through which our small-scale ideas can have a big impact on those looking to incorporate fun and quirky items into their homes while enjoying the benefits of durable steel. We offer wine racks, Handee Shelves, Couple on a Shelf, and Industrial Lamps. While we look forward to expanding our product line in the future, we appreciate those who have supported us in this new retail adventure!

In August of 2014 we had the pleasure of collaborating with local architect William Kleinschmidt  to create a fun contemporary sculpture near the intersection of Carlisle and Claremont called “Carlisle Circles” after the Carlisle Circle Center in which they were placed. The “Carlisle Circles” are one of the largest public artworks in a city rich with creative public sculptures and murals, and it took our entire crew and a forklift to install. It’s a great feeling to be among the ranks of admired New Mexico artists, and we love the opportunity to contribute to the Albuquerque’s collection of public pieces. We love connecting with the community as often as we can. The 32^nd, and final, Weems International Artfest in November was a super fun way to get to know more Albuquerque natives and show them what we have to offer! The New Mexico tradition was held in honor of returning veterans, and we were extremely proud and grateful to be among over 280 artists from all over the country participating in the prestigious event.

The Twinkle Light Parade is another exciting New Mexican tradition that we were able to be a part of in December of 2014. We were lucky enough to win the first place trophy, for the 3rd year, in the Misfit category for our float “Santa Cruz” with the help of our family and friends. We had to bring the creativity for New Mexico’s largest parade of over 300,000 lights, and we think it paid off!

With 2014 behind us, it is important to reflect on the positive impact that our customers and fans have had on us, and how the community has allowed us to express our creativity while creating lasting memories for years to come. We take pride in the results of our hard work at the Carlisle Circle and the Mariposa Port of Entry, and deeply appreciate the consideration of those who chose us for the job. We strive to meet expectations in our creative endeavors as well, and appreciate those who made those events and projects a possibility. Thank you for contributing to the success of Pascetti Steel Design and Funky Steel in 2014. Here’s to the great things we have to look forward to in 2015!

Pascetti Steel Design recently completed the fabrication and installation of a new elevated catwalk system for Western Refining in Bloomfield, NM. The OSHA-approved catwalk was requested by Western Refining to provide top-of-tank access for refinery employees.

Pascetti Steel Design completed catwalks with cage ladder access for three large transfer stations, two exterior areas and one interior station.  The catwalk systems were transported to the site in pieces which could be easily assembled onsite.  Design and installation for the interior area was especially challenging due to limited access in which all pieces had to be carried  in by hand.  All walking surfaces are equipped with galvanized “grip-strut” planking.

All three areas were engineered to be bolted, rather than welded, onsite, because the project coincided with the day-to-day operations of this fully-functional oil and gas refinery. Pascetti Steel Design has earned a superior safety record, with a number of systematic processes in place to ensure job site safety. We are proud to report zero incidents during the fabrication and installation of this high-risk project.

Walter McReynolds, Supervisor at Western Refining, had this to say regarding the completed project:

“We hired Pascetti Steel Design to fabricate and install elevated catwalk systems for access to the tops of our tanks. I was thoroughly impressed with Damian and his crew.  The project was completed in several stages.  Each phase was completed faster than we expected.  Damian and his crew were extremely knowledgeable and their craftsmanship was impeccable.  We will use Pascetti Steel in the future.”

Pascetti Steel Design made 2013 a great year with an impressive list of commercial, residential and retail projects in the books. Here is a look back at a few of the projects that made our company proud in the past year.

Orange, TX

Pascetti Steel Design designed and fabricated a 1,400 linear-foot custom commercial cable railing system for the $6.2 million Orange Riverfront Boardwalk and Pavillion project in Orange, TX. Not only did we manufacture the railing, but we also performed the installation. This project was completed in May 2013.

Santa Ana Star Casino

Pascetti Steel Design was contracted to fabricate and install custom forged railings and gates throughout the Santa Ana Star Casino in Bernalillo, NM.  These commercial railings and gates were installed at Sadie’s New Mexican Restaurant, quick-service restaurant area, throughout the penny arcade, and within the Lounge 54 upscale bar, among other locations within the casino. 

Nogales, AZ

Pascetti Steel Design is currently under contract fabricating and installing powder coated steel casework frames, stainless steel acoustic panels and stainless steel pedestrian inspection kiosks at the new Mariposa Land Port of Entry (Mariposa LPOE) in Nogales, AZ. This project began in 2013 and is still in progress, anticipated to be completed by August 2014. 

Limited Edition “Industrial Collection” Lamps

Pascetti Steel Design is now fabricating and selling beautiful handcrafted lamps as part of their Limited Edition “Industrial Collection.” These unique pieces are made of 4″ square tube steel, then chemically rusted and sprayed with a matte clear coat.

In mid-2013, Pascetti Steel Design added a social media department to our group of knowledgeable and talented staff. With that came the expansion of our presence online, including profiles which can be found on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google+, along with the creation of this blog! Pascetti Steel Design designed and fabricated a 1,400 linear-foot custom commercial cable railing system for the recently completed $6.2 million Orange Texas Riverfront Boardwalk and Pavillion project. The boardwalk’s railings feature hot dipped galvanized finish, 3/16″ stainless steel cables and hardware, and over 16,000 rubber grommets to complete the custom look. Pascetti Steel completed the installation on this difficult site, much of the cable railing was installed from a floating construction barge.   The boardwalk incorporates a 50′ performance pavilion with a canopy, which provides 2,000 feet of coverage. The boardwalk serves as the stage. The project began in June of 2012 and was completed in May of this year. Pascetti Steel Design was awarded the contract for the recent Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) complete reconstruction of Del Norte High School in Albuquerque, NM. This project included ADA compliant steel railings, and metal infill with custom perforation and an unpunched border. The infill also featured a natural, anti-graffiti aluminum finish.

According to a story reported in the Albuquerque Journal, the 150,000-square-foot project cost $60 million and took two years to complete, with the new buildings opening for students in the Fall of 2012.

Pascetti Steel Design is currently under contract fabricating and installing powder-coated steel casework frames, stainless steel acoustic panels and stainless steel pedestrian inspection kiosks at the new Mariposa Land Port of Entry (Mariposa LPOE) in Nogales, AZ. The Mariposa LPOE is currently the second-largest construction project in AZ history! The new buildings are approximately 216,000 gross square feet, and the entire site encompasses 54 acres. This project is LEED® Platinum certified, utilizing energy-efficient technologies throughout. According to the U.S. General Services Administration website, the Mariposa LPOE is one of the United States’ busiest land ports, serving as the main entry point for fresh produce entering Mexico. Completion of the project is anticipated to be August 2014.

Santa Ana Star Center in Bernalillo, NM recently underwent a casino-wide remodel managed by Jaynes Corporation.  Pascetti Steel Design was contracted to fabricate and install custom forged railings and gates throughout the casino. These commercial railings and gates were installed at Sadie’s New Mexican Restaurant, quick-service resaurant area, throughout the penny arcade, and within the Lounge 54 upscale bar, among other locations within the casino. Pascetti Steel Design offers a variety of styles and metals to create the perfect custom curved railings desired for your project. The railings we can create vary in functional design, anywhere from conventional industrial styles to something more detailed and artistic.

A branch of Sandia Area Federal Credit Union in Albuquerque, New Mexico recently received a face-lift on one of their outdoor stairwells courtesy of Pascetti Steel Design. This custom perforated metal enclosure features anti-graffiti natural aluminum finish, trimmed edges, and of course, complete installation. Pascetti Steel Design can offer custom perforation on all types of metal, including stainless steel, aluminum and Corten, so that each individual project can meet the specific needs of the architect and owner.
