Design of the memorial steel support by our friends at Pland Collaborative.   Pascetti fabricated the custom memorial frame which is comprised of thick steel plates then continuously welded and sanded to form a full circle.  Heavy steel base plates and brass commemorative plaque were all embedded into the site footings.  The bell itself is approx. 36” in diameter and weights almost 2,000 lbs.  Supporting the bell is the original threaded rod and large brass nut.  Pascetti Steel Design was honored to help create this permanent memorial artwork within the heart of UNM.

While one bell is located on UNM’s campus at Smith Plaza, the other is on permanent display at Santa Fe’s History Museum.

“The “Queen of the Fleet,” commissioned in 1918 and christened with both champagne and the waters of the Rio Grande, had served as the finest battleship of the Pacific fleet and endured attacks by kamikazes and bombers. For her World War II service, the ship received six battle stars and is still recalled with awe — even though she was sold for scrap in 1947.”

USS Albuquerque Memorial Park: Honoring a Legacy

The USS Albuquerque, a Los Angeles-class nuclear-powered attack submarine, served the United States Navy for nearly 34 years before being decommissioned in 2017. Named after the City of Albuquerque, this submarine played a vital role in defending our nation and honoring the spirit of its namesake city. Now, Pascetti Steel is helping preserve a piece of this historic vessel for future generations.

Once fully restored, the USS Albuquerque sail will be permanently placed at Tingley Beach, serving as the focal point of a new memorial. This location, near the water, provides a fitting setting to honor the USS Albuquerque’s legacy and the brave sailors who served aboard her. The City, along with the U.S. Navy and community partners, have developed a draft concept plan for the USS Albuquerque.

Pascetti Steel teamed with MRWM Architects (also known as Pland Collaborative),  Lee Landscapes, and the City of Albuquerque to fabricate a truly unique and meaningful shade structure. The Women’s Memorial Park is at the site where the remains of eleven women and an unborn child were found in 2009. Pascetti Steel was chosen to fabricate and install this eleven-piece custom steel shade structure. This plaza and shade structure serves as a central gathering space that invites people to engage in moments of quiet reflection and focuses the park’s energy to unite the women who were tragically lost.

The whole shade complex is approx. 60’ across x 10’ tall.  Each piece of the structure is unique and designed as a geometric leaf surrounding a commemorative stone plaque installed at the center of the plaza, to “signify the perseverance of the spirit,”.  10” pipe columns and tube steel structure support aluminum perforated panels that provide filtered shade throughout the day.  1” steel base plates and concrete pier footings make this park shade structure one that will last for decades to come, helping to shade park visitors while remembering the victims of these crimes.

Pascetti Steel was invited to the unveiling on November 25th, which was International Day for Elimination of Violence Toward Women. Dave Simon, Director of the Parks and Recreation Department, explained the park’s goal, stating, “The Parks Department aims to memorialize the courageous women of Albuquerque while also shedding light on the urgent need to end violence against women worldwide.”

Pascetti Steel was selected by History Colorado, the state historical association,  to fabricate and install new gates and fencing to match the original historic gates and fencing.

Don Felipe de Jesus Baca was one of the first settlers of the Purgatoire River valley, one of the most important developers of Trinidad, and a member of the Colorado Territorial legislature. He is the namesake of Baca County in southeast Colorado.

In 1873, the Baca family traded 22,000 pounds of wool for an unusual adobe house built for Santa Fe Trail entrepreneur John Hough. The Baca House boasts two stories, a widow’s walk, and Greek architectural details. Colorful Rio Grande textiles, Victorian furniture, and other period furnishings evoke the lifestyle of this prominent family.

The Bio Park is home to 10 macaroni and 12 gentoo penguins from San Diego and 10 male king penguins from Orlando. This is the first exhibit where you can see these three species together. The closest exhibit of its kind is in San Diego, nearly 12 hours by car.

The custom mural feature sits at the entrance of the new exhibit, which is now open. The piece was inspired by the landscapes near Ushuaia, Argentina, which is home to Gentoo and King penguins.

The mural was designed by MRWM Landscape Architects and fabricated by Pascetti Steel Design.

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT:

• Two floors for viewing penguins above and below water
• Seven penguin viewing areas, including a glass floor and an “in-tank” viewing tube
• VIP area for penguin meet-and-greet sessions
• Penguin care area, including quarantine and egg incubation rooms

Many places of worship have unique and exceptional interiors.  This is quite evident with a recent new worship space in Oceanside, CA, the Church of St. Thomas More in the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego. To support her sand-carved glass relief sculpture, Pascetti Steel was hired to fabricate custom steel structures designed by Claire M. Wing, Liturgical Glass +++ Arts, a renowned professional liturgical artist and designer working nationally in leaded glass and sand-carved glass relief sculpture.

Claire Wing designed and sandblast carved three massive ¾” thick glass panels which are supported by our custom steel support system.  This system is the foundation to hold this incredible triptych glass sculpture which weighs approximately 1,000 pounds and is cantilevered from the back wall of the Annunciation Shrine.  Machined and threaded unions, escutcheon plates, matching support rods accompany the system with heavy neoprene to protect the glass artwork.

Adjacent to the glass sculpture, Ms. Wing designed a series of equally unique votive candle holders, stainless steel trays with matching inserts which Pascetti fabricated to hold sand and candles that then slide into an exterior stainless frame.
