The Westside Community Center at 1250 Isleta Blvd SW, Albuquerque, NM 87105, holds a rich history as the first community center built by Bernalillo County Parks and Recreation in 1959. In 2024, this center underwent significant renovations to enhance its facilities and provide more amenities for the local community. Among the upgrades was the pavilion shade structure fabricated and installed by Pascetti Steel.

The new pavilion shade structure, fabricated and installed by Pascetti Steel, serves as the centerpiece of this outdoor performance space. The stage, located in the southeast corner of Louis Richard Rocco Memorial Park, just south of the Westside Community Center building, is now one of the largest outdoor performance spaces for public events on Albuquerque’s west side.

Designed with durability and functionality in mind, this steel pavilion shade structure provides much-needed cover for performers and attendees, ensuring comfort during Albuquerque’s sunny days. Whether hosting concerts, cultural events, or community gatherings, the community center shade structure creates an inviting and versatile space for all to enjoy.

This custom-designed cantilevered shade structure is crafted to provide ample coverage, creating a comfortable space for all seasons. The structure’s unique design showcases custom papel picado laser cut panels, which allow dappled sunlight to filter through while keeping the area cool. With the help of Absolute Powder Coating, our powder-coated panels are durable and resistant to weathering, ensuring a long-lasting, vibrant look for the park.

Custom Bus Shelters: A Modern Homage to Historic Routes

We had the pleasure of working with Pland Collaborative and the City Of Albuquerque on this exciting new project! These unique bus shelters are installed along Bridge Blvd in the South Valley of Albuquerque, NM. They are not just functional structures; they are a modern tribute to the rich cultural and historical heritage of the region.

Designed by Pland Collaborative and inspired by the traditional form of a paraje, or resting place, found along El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro. This historic trading route stretches from Mexico City to Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo in Northern New Mexico, serving as a vital link for trade and cultural exchange for centuries.

Our bus shelters feature laser-cut panels with a durable powder coating finish. This ensures precise, clean cuts and a high-quality finish. The powder coating adds an extra layer of protection, enhancing the longevity and durability of the shelters. This makes them both aesthetically pleasing and resistant to weathering.

To complement the bus shelters, we fabricated custom rusted bus station trash cans. These trash cans are designed to match the aesthetic of the shelters, providing a visually appealing streetscape. The rusted finish ensures durability and low maintenance, making them a practical addition to a public space.

Pascetti Steel Design Inc. recently completed a large steel shade structure at Rio Rancho Campus Park which was an ideal collaboration between local design and fabrication teams.  Formative Architecture proved to be an excellent firm, designing a unique park shade structure that will last for generations.  Pascetti Steel is honored to have had the opportunity to fabricate and install this exceptional custom steel shade structure.  The main support ribs are CNC cut 1” thick steel plates.  The shade pattern is achieved by two layers of 4” angle.  Installation started with the three main ribs (pre-welded with 1.5” thick base plates) placed onto large concrete footings, by Mountain West Golfscapes.  Steel shade slats were welded on site and the final perforated Corten metal sheets were applied with matching trims.

Campus Park located within the City Center of Rio Rancho, offers a versatile outdoor community gathering area. Accessible from both Unser Blvd. and Paseo del Volcan via King Blvd., the park serves as a prime destination for city events, concerts, and daily visitors, including college students, City Center employees, and residents.

of the desert. The design takes advantage of the site’s

significant topography and adds to it, creating overlooks,

a natural amphitheater, terrace lawns, and bosque lowlands,

all in a contemporary design language. “

“To accommodate more intimate performances near the Sky Room amphitheater, Formative Architecture designed

a small shade structure and venue space. The sculptural form takes inspiration from the curved, exterior weathered steel panels, and galvanized

underbelly of the Sky Room, as well as the weathered steel, angled jetty jacks found in the Rio Grande Bosque. The sculpture interprets

these design languages,  resulting in a unique concept that still relates to the overall  park context.”       -Formative Architecture re

Pascetti Steel teamed with MRWM Architects (also known as Pland Collaborative),  Lee Landscapes, and the City of Albuquerque to fabricate a truly unique and meaningful shade structure. The Women’s Memorial Park is at the site where the remains of eleven women and an unborn child were found in 2009. Pascetti Steel was chosen to fabricate and install this eleven-piece custom steel shade structure. This plaza and shade structure serves as a central gathering space that invites people to engage in moments of quiet reflection and focuses the park’s energy to unite the women who were tragically lost.

The whole shade complex is approx. 60’ across x 10’ tall.  Each piece of the structure is unique and designed as a geometric leaf surrounding a commemorative stone plaque installed at the center of the plaza, to “signify the perseverance of the spirit,”.  10” pipe columns and tube steel structure support aluminum perforated panels that provide filtered shade throughout the day.  1” steel base plates and concrete pier footings make this park shade structure one that will last for decades to come, helping to shade park visitors while remembering the victims of these crimes.

Pascetti Steel was invited to the unveiling on November 25th, which was International Day for Elimination of Violence Toward Women. Dave Simon, Director of the Parks and Recreation Department, explained the park’s goal, stating, “The Parks Department aims to memorialize the courageous women of Albuquerque while also shedding light on the urgent need to end violence against women worldwide.”
